Specialty Laboratories is one of the largest esoteric medical
laboratories in the United States. Since 1975 the company has enjoyed
solid growth through scientific innovation and superior service. Located
in Valencia, California in a new custom designed, 200,000 square foot
facility.
Within the Valencia facility are a wide variety of clinical
laboratories, conducting a wide variety of assays. Among the specialty
areas are Molecular Biology, Cellular Immunology, Tissue Culture, Flow
Cytometry, Molecular Genetics, Cytogenetics, Microbiology, and
Chemistry. The site also hosts a Clinical Trials Department and a
Research & Development Group.
Specialty Laboratories is seeking applicants for the position of
Controller, in our Accounting Dept., Qualified applicants will be
invited to interview, for an immediate start date. Under the direction
of Corporate Accounting and the Managing Director, The Controller
will direct the Accounting, Financial Planning, and
Accounts Receivable departments to ensure timely financial
reporting and control. In this role the Controller provides monthly
consolidated financial statements and reports to management and
corporate finance according to a pre-set schedule. Additional
responsibilities include, but are not limited to; maintains and updates
business systems (computerized accounting systems) to continue the
timely and accurate reporting of the company's financial position.
Monitors the company's accounts receivable to ensure timely generation
of invoices and cash collections. Minimizes bad debt write offs,and
maintains appropriate levels of reserve. Coordinates and compiles the
company's annual plan and quarterly forecasts in conformance with
company guidelines. Reports to management monthly on variances and
problems which require management attention.
Reviews and oversees the costing and financial analysis functions.
Ensures that all non-corporate generated federal, state and local tax
returns are prepared accurately and timely. Ensures timely payment of
associated taxes. Coordinates all tax audits by outside agencies to
ensure compliance.
Coordinates the annual accounting audit in conjunction with
corporate's internal and outside auditing firm to ensure the accurate
reporting of the company's financial results in compliance with
generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), and to reflect those
results as required by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).
indirectly through subordinates, ensures the timely and accurate
processing of purchase requisitions, warehouse receipts, accounts
payable invoices, and payroll. Completes special projects as
required.
JOB REQUIREMENTS: BA/BS in Finance, business, or related field with an
emphasis in Accounting. MBA preferred. At least 8- plus years
of general accounting and financial planning experience with at least 3
years in a managerial role a must. Experience in a laboratory
testing environment, or in a service oriented industry as a
Controller preferred. Must have the ability to prioritize
multiple tasks and projects and meet short deadlines. Strong management
and interpersonal skills, with superior influencing and relationship
management skills required. Ability to highlight issues or problems and
convey complex thoughts, written and oral, in a clear concise and timely
manner. Proactively participates in company and business unit
initiatives. Strong leadership including team building and
empowerment skills as well as ability to communicate technical issues to
executive leadership and front line employees. Experience with project
management. Six Sigma and process excellence. Experience working in a
matrix environment. Experience with all of the following Microsoft
office applications: Excel, Word, Outlook, Powerpoint, and Access.
