Staff Accountant | Amsted Industries | Overland Park, KS
Griffin Wheel Company, a division of Amsted Rail, is a North American
Leader in the manufacture of high quality freight and diesel engine
wheels to the railroad industry, we pride ourselves on being the market

Working under close supervision, the Staff Accountant assembles
and consolidates financial information into monthly, quarterly and
annual reports of the Company's operations and financial position.
Assists with periodic closings, maintains property ledgers and
depreciation schedules, prepares tax information and develops base
information for planning and budgeting purposes.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Prepares monthly, quarterly and annual reports from information
submitted from operating locations on an accurate and timely basis
following established procedures and timetables.
2. Assists with the Company's periodic closings by maintaining current
and accurate financial records reflecting accounts payable, costs,
sales, profit and loss and variances from established plan goals.
Prepare and analyze monthly account reconciliations, schedules and
Journal entries
3. Prepares base information, which has been tested for accuracy and
reasonableness which is used to formulate short term and long term plans
and budgets.
4. Maintains files and records in an orderly manner to permit prompt
retrieval of data, as needed, and provide security for sensitive
information.
5. Assembles ,input and analyzes statistical data for special reports
and projects as directed by supervisor. Advises supervision of unusual
variances.
6. Assists with reproduction and distribution of periodic reports in
accordance with established procedures and timetables.
7. Audits data submitted from all sources for completeness, accuracy and
reasonableness before processing into consolidated reports, etc. Advises
supervisor of unusual situations.
8. Suggests methods and procedures improvements to supervisor to
increase efficiency and reduce costs.
9. Provide support to plant locations as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS
1. Bachelors degree in Accounting or related area required.
2. Three - five years meaningful experience in accounting
or finance in a manufacturing environment.
3. Demonstrated proficiency in use of Microsoft Excel, Word, E-mail
and 10-key adding machine or calculator skills required.
4. Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.
5. Good interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team
environment.
